About Us
It started in Amsterdam
In 2020, we were living in a small apartment in Amsterdam — far from New Zealand, but still dreaming of long, laid-back Kiwi summers.
The slower pace. Bare feet. Doors left open. Evenings that drifted outdoors.
Living small in Europe taught us something important: when space is designed well, you don’t miss having more of it. What matters is how it feels to live in — how light moves through it, how spaces connect, and how effortlessly life can spill outside.
That idea stayed with us.
About Us
Learning to live with less — and better
We weren’t ready to move back to New Zealand full-time, but we wanted to start preparing for it. So we bought a piece of land back home and began experimenting with small living — first by renovating a retro caravan, then by building something a little more permanent.
Designed carefully and lived in seasonally, it became our summer base for three months each year — simple, open, and closely connected to the outdoors.
That experience reinforced what we’d learned living in Amsterdam: a well-designed small space offers more freedom, not less.
Less maintenance. Less clutter. More time outside. More living.
Design Philosophy
A modern take on the Kiwi bach
When we eventually returned to New Zealand full-time, it became clear we weren’t alone in craving this way of living.
Not oversized beach houses or luxury holiday homes — but modest, well-designed spaces that feel relaxed, timeless, and easy to live in. Places that feel nostalgic yet modern. Small by intention, not compromise.
That ongoing exploration is what this site documents.
A modern interpretation of the Kiwi bach — shaped by real use, careful design, and a belief that good spaces don’t need to be big to feel generous.
The ideas explored here continue to evolve as we refine what a considered micro-bach can be.
